In recent years, the city of Kuala Lumpur has grown into nothing short of a major shopping destinations, being today home to a number of malls, markets and familiar brands. The various street markets of Kuala Lumpur perhaps offer the ultimate Malaysian shopping experience, often only coming to life as the evening approaches and the famous night markets (pasar malam) begin.

For local produce in Kuala Lumpur, then the Pudu Market on the Jalan Pasar Baharu tends to be the best bet, selling every kind of food that you can possibly imagine, and then some.

Modern shopping centres and malls also make a strong appearance in Kuala Lumpur and have changed the face of much of the cityscape, particularly around the Golden Triangle, which is where the Imbi Plaza resides. The biggest and best malls in Kuala Lumpur include the enormous Berjaya Times Square, which surprisingly for many a British tourist is actually home to UK department store giant, Debenhams.

The Mid Valley Megamall is another enormous shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, with around 300 outlets, a multi-screen cinema, extensive food court and Carrefour supermarket. At the very base of the Petronas Twin Towers, the Suria KLMM shopping centre is a good reason to pay a visit to these iconic skyscrapers.
